Disordered or amorphous materials are commonplace across formulation sciences, metals and glasses. While our understanding of amorphous solids has advanced there remain challenges in the reliable preparation, processing and manufacturing of such materials. Split over two days, the first day will feature presentations from a number of experts across these fields. The second day will be dedicated to a workshop on the practise of measuring and interpretation of Pair Distribution Functions using the newly commissioned PDF beamline at the Diamond Light Source.

The two-day meeting will be hosted a the Diamond Light Source in Oxfordshire and has kindly been sponsored by Diamond and Pfizer. The course is intended for chemists, chemical engineers and plant managers working in the chemical and life-science industry, in the fine chemicals industry as well as in the basic chemicals industry who develop crystallization processes, transfer crystallizations into production or between sites, operate crystallization processes or who optimize crystallizations.

The course is equally directed towards persons working in formulation of crystalline products, in the life-science but also in alimentary or consumer products fields, wanting to learn more about the potentials of the processes leading to the crystalline starting material to be formulated. The speakers will discuss the latest issues in synthetic route design, development and optimisation, reactor design, work up and purification, crystallisation, polymorphism, catalysis, and quality and regulatory issues.

The presentations will be from either speakers within the chemical industry or academics with a strong link to industrial process development, so the material presented will be of particular relevance to all chemists and biochemists in industry, as well as graduate students considering a career in industry.
